This post is exactly what it says in the title; nice and simple. Below are 6 songs that hold a great deal of meaning to me, be it places that I’ve travelled to or childhood memories, or ones that remind me of specific people in my life. I could have picked at least 20, but keeping up with my last post, I picked the first 5 that sprung into my head. If you want to hear what my 5 songs are, then keep on reading!

  1. DANIEL RUCKER – WAGON WHEEL

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hvKyBcCDOB4

This upbeat song reminds me of my time working at an American summer camp. I worked out in Rock Hill, New York for the past 2 summers and honestly they were the best times of my life.  The obvious choice! This is one of those songs that always manages to put a smile on my face. I picture the sunshine, the warmth, the smiles on everyone’s faces and just having a general good time. The upbeat melody never fails to get me moving, and the catchy nature of it sticks in your head for weeks. This is a song that without a shadow of a doubt brings up my best memories of camp, and especially driving down the open road in my first summer of 2016. It’s the ultimate road trip song, at home or abroad, and will guarantee to make you break out singing and dancing. It brings me closer to all my friends across the world, and that knowing we all have a home at Iroquois Springs summer camp.

  1. BOYS LIKE GIRLS – THUNDER

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytLzxl4-mLw

This is one of my all-time favourites songs from one of my all-time favourite bands. This song reminds me of New York again, but for different reasons. I saw Boys Like Girls for the third time in Times Square, NYC, in my first summer at camp. It had been about 6 years since I had last seen them, and my teenage me couldn’t handle the excitement! To top it all off, they played at the Playstation Theatre which is a historic venue! This song is about summer love and finding someone who really made your summer and how you will always remember them. Some of the lyrics in the chorus specifically talk about someone’s voice being ‘the soundtrack of my summer,’ and how no matter what you will always remember the summer you spent with them. As a band in general they have helped me a lot growing up with bullying and constant shaming, but it also reminds me of a time over my summer where love existed in places where I thought it couldn’t anymore. It helped me find happiness, even if it was not meant to last.

  1. TINIE TEMPAH – TRAMPOLINE

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6VOeQZ6Bi7I

This song is more of a silly one, and a type of music that I’m not normally in to. This reminds of my first year studying at Sheffield Hallam University. Meeting your flat mates for the first time and living away from home is scary, but luckily I was blessed to have awesome flat mates. One of my flat mates was convinced that he knew all the lyrics to this song, and whenever it came on he would really try and sing it loud and proud. The rest of us thought it would be a great idea to learn the lyrics too, so we printed them out and pinned them onto our picture wall for us all to learn. Long story short, we never ended up learning any of the lyrics, but whenever I hear this song I think of me and my best friend trying to learn them for a laugh, and miserably failing to do so.

  1. JASON DERULO – WHATCHA SAY

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pBI3lc18k8Q

This one reminds me of a young naïve me. 15-16-year-old me made a lot of mistakes, and really put my trust and time into the wrong people. This song reminds me of heartbreak; of being cheated on by someone that I thought the world of. It reminds me of my ex best friend going behind my back liking this guy who completely broke my heart, yet she was the one holding me when I cried my heart out. I should never have let him hurt me and looking back I shouldn’t have been so harsh on her about what she did. It just reminds me that everyone is not as they appear to be. I gave this guy a second chance a year later, only to be screwed over with again.  I remember him even saying that this song really reminded him of our situation, and that it was one of the biggest mistakes he had made.  The worst part? To this day he has never admitted to cheating on me, and never apologised to my face but instead sent me a pathetic voice mail recording that was so rehearsed it was just…yawn.  It is a song that reminds me that some people just don’t deserve another minute of your time or any second chances, and to not make that mistake again. Apologies can be worthless, and somebody like that trying to come back into your life is a definite no-no.

  1. PARAMORE – LAST HOPE

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XoYu7K6Ywkg

I have always been a huge Paramore fan and will say that their music has taken a creative turn from their normal music. I have so much to say about this song, but I’ll try and keep it short and sweet. This song basically gives me hope; it gave me hope during last summer working at an American summer camp when I was losing hope in everything. I had personal relationship issues going on and was made to feel a lot of guilt, I was so miserable and no matter how many times I had tried talking about it, it ended up making things worse or nothing change. I felt worthless and like nothing; I was in a dark place in myself. I honestly cried every night wondering if things would ever get better. This song acted as a keepsake for me, as a reminder that I am STRONG no matter what. It reminds me that letting go of control is OK and it’s nothing to be scared of, and it’s ABSOLUTELY OK to have hope. Always have hope; that’s my motto here. Whenever anyone tells you to stop dreaming and believing, ignore them. This song honestly kept me going the entire summer and told me that tomorrow is a new day that brings new things, and that things will get better slowly. I owe a lot to Paramore for making this record and I’m going to link the live version because I believe that this version does the song a lot more justice than the recorded one.

  1. PAPA ROACH – LAST RESORT

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0lSpNtjPM8

Finally, more my kinda music! This song is an absolute classic amongst rockers and is an anthem wherever it comes onto a stereo. I have quite an early childhood memory associated with this song. Every year up to the age of 12, my family and I would drive to France and go on family holidays for a couple of weeks. We would drive to the South coast, get the ferry across to France and drive to our campsite. My brother regularly wanted to put his music on the CD player and when he had his best friend with him, there was no other option but to let him play his music. He was really into his rock music at this time and this was his go-to song. My dad was never too much of a fan of it because of the swearing in it, so as a way around it my brother always used to use the word ‘Donald’ instead of a swear word. I still laugh about it now, and whenever I listen to it I always remember my brother shouting ‘DONALD!’ in the back of our car.

So there you have it! Just a few songs that remind me of places I’ve travelled to or of specific memories in my life. Everyone has their own songs to remind them of things; this is what is so great about music! What are your songs? I would love to hear what songs you have that remind you of great memories!

Jeffree Star ‘Skin Frost Pro Palette’ Review

27604702_10156005320014089_999091232_o

So when I saw that Jeffree Star was bringing out a highlighter PALETTE, I was shook. Of course I was going to buy it! Anyone that knows me well knows how much I love to glow on my cheeks, and sometimes blind people, but highlighting is my favourite part of my makeup routine. Although pricey, I thought it was worth trying out the new palette from the Queen of Highlighters. If you want to see how I found it, then keep on reading!

PACKAGING

27537261_10156005320699089_1161843844_o

So when I ordered this, I had already read up on the online reviews that were circulating and there were huge complaints on the packaging. It was branded as ‘cheap’, considering the price point, and it looked ‘tacky.’ So when it arrived, I was super nervous to open it! It came in a paper box like some highlighter palettes do, but I was always going to throw this away anyway. When I actually held/felt the palette, it did not feel cheap at all! What I really appreciated about this palette is the fact that it has a mirror with it, I LIVE for that! So many palettes, for example the ABH Aurora palette, doesn’t have a mirror and I find that such a pain. So this mirror for me made the price point more reasonable, and at a first impression I was pleased!

HOW IT WENT ON/PIGMENTATION

27537511_10156005320339089_2094826329_o

So down to the real business…the pigmentation. Now as much as I love a good shade range, I knew from the offset that some of these colours would not work with my skin tone/complexion. In this palette two of these are classic Jeffree shades, (Ice Cold and Lavender Snow), whilst the other four are new colours. What I love about the JSC brand is that his entire range is vegan and cruelty free, which I always look for in a brand.

(Shades Top to Bottom: Ice Cold, Glacier, Lavender Snow, Alien Ice, Pink Chill, Canary Bling)

Now for me personally, my favourite kinda highlighter is a really light one that blinds; and with Ice Cold, I definitely got that! I loved the way it went on my skin and really popped, but I also found that it did not apply as intensely with a fan brush. But with a dome shaped highlighter brush, it works a treat! I regularly mix ‘Ice Cold’ and ‘Glacier’ together to create that extra frosted look, which works really cute too! I’ve been a bit sceptical of using ‘Lavender Snow’, as I don’t think it works with my skin complexion, but from swatching it, it looks a stunning colour full of pigmentation!

(Top to Bottom: Ice Cold, Glacier, Lavender Snow, Alien Ice, Pink Chill, Canary Bling)

The two shades that I was disappointed with were ‘Alien Ice’ and ‘Canary Bling.’ Literally took me so many attempts to get a decent swatch of them! And when I applied them to my face… well that was just a disappointment. (I wish now I had taken a picture, something I’m definitely going to start doing!) It just did not make that dramatic impact that I was expecting, especially considering this is a JSC product and he is known for loving a blinding highlight! Maybe these would look better when wet, but they definitely did not work for me. That is also something that doesn’t work for me about this palette; it seems to come across a bit chalky, and I am unsure why. I thought this with ‘Pink Chill’ too, but then after research I realised that this is a topper shade, rather than a full-blown highlight. So as a topper, it definitely works and brings a lovely rosy glow to your complexion!

WORTH THE MONEY?

27707195_10156005320244089_1150390844_o

So this is the point that seemed to keep popping up in the online world… is this really worth the price tag? I paid this price for the ABH Aurora palette and at the time I thought it was expensive, but over time I’ve realised how much it was worth it. The highlighters individually retail at range from £19.13-£25.50 (Beauty Bay), so considering that you get a range of colours for £35.00 does make it worth the money! Although it does seem to not live up to the expectations, this was also said about some of the ABH palettes, and I do think the price point is quite accurate for the product.

So that’s it! I would say that his product is APPROVED, but I do think that there are better palettes out there on the market. The price point is pretty accurate for what you get, but I do agree with some of the internet that it has not lived up to the hype. This might have just been my particular palette, every palette is different! Jeffree has just announced his Blood Sugar Collection, so I would love to see a highlighter palette appear in that down the line!

I’ll apologise for the big delay in posting. I’ve had a ton of stuff going on personally, so I’ve been struggling to find motivation. But writing this has got me back into the swing of things, so hopefully there will be more in 2018!

Stay beautiful,

Shannon

Lades Brushes; A Cheaper Alternative!

SUP BISHES?!

So finally, the blogging game is back on here @ infiniteaurora. I would like to apologise now for the huge delay in writing more reviews; postgraduate university life/life in general/getting the flu has just gotten too much in the way, but the flu aint gonna stop me today. I’m FINALLY going to post the review of some gorgeous make up brushes, by LADES, that I bought on Amazon.com whilst I was out in the United States this summer. I will at the end link the product of course, so you guys have read some of the other reviews for yourself.

So if you would like to see what I think of these brushes and find out some more information about them, keep on reading!

PACKAGING

(I apologise for the blur; I didn’t notice how bad it was!)

So unfortunately, due to jamming these brushes into my suitcase before I returned back to the UK, the box that these brushes came in got a little damaged (to say the least). Reality is, my selfie stick punctured a giant whole in the box, so there was no way that box was appearing on this post. But in a nutshell, the brushes arrived in a beautiful white box and were all individually packaged (as you can see in the picture below), to ensure the bristles were not damaged. To say these were ‘cheap’ brushes; I was surprised! They also came with a silicone sponge and a brush cleaner head. (Not gonna lie, the silicone sponges give me major anxiety so that has stayed nicely in its packaging and will not be touched).

In this set there are 10 brushes, which include a range of face and eye brushes. The brushes are of all sizes and densities, which is just what you want in a range. I am particularly excited about trying out the fan brush; it seems a lot sturdy than other ones I have used, so hopefully it packs more product on and you get a better highlighted finish as a result of it! Overall, I was nicely surprised with how it arrived. The only thing that would have been nice would have been a little case/bag/roll up to put the brushes in, that’s my only critic!

PRICE POINT

25383415_10155881645434089_1341308302_o.jpg

Now the main thing we need to look at is the price point. I bought these brushes whilst working at an American summer camp this summer on Amazon.com. I had received a voucher for the site when I was awarded ‘Counsellor of the week’, and wasn’t sure what to spend it on. I was worried that when I returned back to England, it would be harder for me to use it. So I thought, why not treat myself to some new brushes if they have some within my price range? (Also bought my boyfriend a lovely beanie hat, cos’ I’m so nice). These brushes retailed at $12.99 [for us using the Pound, that’s around £9.69 for 10 brushes]. Let me repeat that; $12.99. How cheap is that?! I was so sceptical about buying them, as were other people from what I read in the reviews, but they honestly do not disappoint. That works out at around $1.29 per brush.

If you look at other brush sets, you don’t get any for anywhere near this price for 10 brushes. If you bought the legit ‘Unicorn Cosmetics’ set, you’re looking at around £50.00 (on beautybay.com). If you bought a 12 piece ‘Sigma Beauty’ kit, you’re looking at £130.00. I am a HUGE Morphe girl so the only brand I would pay good money for brushes is Morphe, and even then, a good size set could be £40.00. So if you were looking for a cheaper alternative that are super pretty, these brushes tick that box.

GENERAL FEEL OF THE PRODUCT

25383438_10155881645309089_2040738978_o

So now for how they feel when using the brushes. I haven’t tried all of them yet because for some things I just have my go to brushes and I am very stubborn about changing them up, but some of these brushes proved to be fantastic. The contour brush is not as great as I imagined it would be; it does pack the product on the brush, but the actual finish on your face is not great, so this one was a disappointment.  The eyeshadow flat brush seems a great little brush; packs on all the product and gives a nice look on the eyes, a thumbs up in my book! The angled small brush (picture above) is also really good, I found it particularly good for doing eyeshadow on the lower lash line.

25434002_10155881645314089_1154936797_o

For me personally, the highlight fan brush is where it is at. Although it doesn’t look like it picks up the product, once you brush it along the high plains of your face; oh boy. It packs that product on. The bristles seem so much stronger than other fan brushes that I have used, and easily glides along the face. I currently use a Zoeva fan brush and I find that the bristles seem very frail and they fall out a lot easier, where as this new fan brush I feel will last much longer. It is harder getting used to the thinner handles, but once you have used them a few times it gets much easier.

25434105_10155881645349089_130394743_o.jpg

So to conclude, if you’re looking for a cheap and pretty alternative to mainstream make up brush sets, this is a good one for you. The brushes by LADES look like the Unicorn brush set, and you can choose from a selection of colours too. The delivery was pretty speedy, and I remind you again they cost me $12.99. They are a pretty alternative to standard make up brushes, and if you pair it with a rose gold clear brush holder, then it’s a nice accessory for your dressing table.

Stay beautiful!
